Tesla Model S P85D vs Ferrari 458 Italia

How does the new AWD Tesla Model S P85D compare against a new Ferrari 458 Italia? We took the two of them onto a quarter mile strip of road to find out.

The original Tesla P85D vs Ferrari video that went viral:

This is the rematch that you’ve been asking for. A few of you said it wasn’t fair to race a modern day Tesla with a decade-old Ferrari. So this time, I pitted it against a new Ferrari: The beautiful 458 Italia.

Tesla Model S P85D | 691 HP | 4,936 lbs | 0-60 3.2 s
Ferrari 458 Italia | 570 HP | 3,274 lbs | 0-60 3.0s

The Tesla has a more powerful engine, but is much heavier than the Ferrari. During these runs, there were two people in the Tesla and one person in the Ferrari. In the third run, the Ferrari was given a slight lead to try to even things out. The 1/4 mile marker ends at the back of the overpass. The Ferrari was driven in Race mode. The Tesla was set to Insane mode.

Special thanks to Lord Zilla, lead singer for ATTILA, for using his Ferrari in this video. You can follow him at:

After this video, I plan on doing a rematch of my Tesla P85D against my
Lamborghini Aventador. Except this time around, I’ll have the driver put
the car in Corsa mode and engage Thrust Mode.

    Dat launch

Torque is what wins in the beginning, be the longer the race, the more it
becomes about horsepower and weight of the car.

The Tesla is 1500 lbs heavier than the 458.

Nonetheless, it’s impressive how the Tesla starts strong.

  5. TheQuestionMark says:

Can someone tell me how the ferrari pulls away so much after a while? I
know that the tesla weighs A LOT more but it still has A LOT more hp. So
are electric motors just not that powerful at high speeds? I highly doubt
it that it’s because of the weight difference.

    But please enlighten me :)

  6. hamza4real says:

The real question is does it sound as good as the 458?

  7. hung huge says:

“Oh but if it was (blah blah) the ferrari would win”. “oh why not use
launch control so the ferrari can win”? “If you started the race at 150mph
    the ferari would win”.

Please shut up with this stupidity. The ferrari has two seats where the
tesla can have seven. The ferrari is a purpose built supercar where the
tesla is a large, luxury car.
The fact the tesla can leave it off the line while being luxurious and
using no fossil fuel makes it far more interesting than yet another
    development of an ice car.
Yes that’s a luxury car vs a super car and 100+ years of development vs
    around 10.

“oh but the ferrari makes a better noise”
Does it? Maybe on the odd occassion where you’re out for a blast that’s
nice. For the vast majority of the time it’s a pain in the ass. Start car,
wake up neighbours. Start car at work, look like a poseur. Start car at
shops, look like you’re desperate for attention. Try to go fast – every cop
within 10 miles knows what you’re doing and where you’re doing it.
Having to go round with a shouty exhaust is akin to going about with a sign
telling everyone you have a tiny penis.
It’s the kind of car that only really works if you’re testing it for a
magazine or if you’re new money.
As something to show off the ferrari is a nice toy. As a car the tesla is
so much better in almost every way it’s embarrassing to think that this is
    all ferrari has got.

IN A FEW YEARS the tesla motors will have the fastest cars on the planet,
electric cars are way ahead of cars combustion, more efficient, more
economic, less maintenance and more secure

After the Ferrari 575 and the Lamborghini Aventador, Tesla Model S races
against the Ferrari 458italia. Now if you have watched the previous drag
races, you might think the result of this race is predictable. Well you are
As a reminder this is the Tesla Model S P85D producing 691hp and it can
achieve 0-100kmh (62mph) in 3.2 seconds thanks to its all-wheel drive,
while the Ferrari produces 562hp and it’s able to accelerate from 0-100kmh
    (62mph) in 3.4 seconds.

People dont get the point of Tesla, its not supposed to be cool or bad ass
even if it is, its about pollution, The ferrarie has a big engine not very
echo friendly, the Tesla doesnt use any fossil fuel or toxic oil and doesnt
    produce CO2.

I honestly do NOT believe the Tesla is stock even Tesla themselves said the
0-60 takes more than 4 seconds the Ferrari is a 3.3 sec so yeah, still who
ever tuned that Tesla did a great job especially on the launch control

  19. leerman22 says:

Can’t beat the gas guzzler? Just add another induction motor and inverter.
They’re not that big. Or integrate the induction motors into the wheels.

  23. Felipe Azevedo says:

Tesla S P85D is really impressive, undeniable; but Ferrari isn’t being
launched properly, you should be using launch control for optimal

Anyone care to look at the braking light on the Tesla? The Ferrari passed
the Tesla after the quarter mile mark.
